School Mission
The Joint School of Public Health (JSPH) is a collaborative partnership between Old Dominion University and Norfolk State University to offer experiential learning and research opportunities across multiple campuses. The first of its kind in Virginia, students learn through hands-on experience, classroom learning, and community engagement to prepare for the public health jobs of the future.
The school’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of populations, in the Commonwealth of Virginia and beyond, through transformative education, research, scholarship, service, practice experiences and community partnerships.
Program Application and Acceptance
The JSPH has developed graduate programs that prepare individuals for practice, teaching, or research to meet the public health needs of the region, the state, and the nation. These programs include the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Health Services Research degree, the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree, and several graduate certificate programs.
Students entering graduate programs in the JSPH should meet the minimum university admission requirements (see https://www.odu.edu/admission/graduate). Application information, qualifications, deadlines, and advisors are listed in the specific program sections of this catalog and on the program web sites.
Note: Students enrolled in the MPH concentration provided at Norfolk State University (NSU) should rely on the NSU Graduate Catalog starting with the 2024 - 2025 academic year: https://www.nsu.edu/catalog.
